Bear attacks when fishing are rare but they do occasionally happen. Black bears and Grizzly Bears inhabit rivers that hold lots of chinook, coho, pink, sockeye, chum salmon, and steelhead. It’s important when fly fishing or gear fishing in remote coastal areas of British Columbia to master your “Woah Bear” call to avoid an unpleasant bear encounter. Make lots of noise to avoid sneaking up and surprising a bear.
