Using his authority under the Antiquities Act to create national monuments, President Obama proclaimed 1,351,849 acres as the Bears Ears National Monument on December 28, 2016.
Less than one month later, Utah legislators plan to ask President Donald Trump to rescind the just-created monument and also to erase large portions of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument created a generation ago.
