As this video from 2009 illustrates, fly fishing guide Cordell Baum Jr. aka the bonefish whisperer, took a simpler approach to his craft. On the flats, he used a stable canoe with a push pole, standup fishing kayaks for lakes, and he walked or biked into canals to fish from shore.
Sadly, after spending time searching for more about Cordell, I learned that he passed away in September of 2019 after a long battle with cancer.
This sport needs more Cordells and fewer bros.
I fished with Cordell – aka Bonefish Whisperer aka Rainbow Jesus – he was the best and is missed – thanks for sharing Chum!
I would have liked to have had the chance to fish with him.
This is Cordell’s wife and just found this….thank you so much for keeping his memory alive..he was one of the best Fly Fisherman and guide…he fought a valiant and hard fight with the bone cancer monster all of 2019, but he gave up on September 15, 2019…he is not in pain anymore.

Just saw a comment on the Mill House IG page that Cordell passed away. I fished with him once about ten years ago. All on foot in a canal somewhere near Miami. The only time I’ve been to Miami. Lots of laughs and some fish too.
Unique in his own way, he was a good guy.
