Colombia is a country that for more than 50 years was at war with the Farc guerillas. The Farc is the oldest and largest group among Colombia’s left-wing rebels It is believed the Farc are among the richest rebel movements in the world. Colombia is one of the main producers of cocaine and the rebels get a large part of their income from drug trafficking or levying “taxes” on those who do. They resort to extortion and kidnapping for ransom to protect their position and fund their paramilitary strongholds.
In 2016, the FARC signed a ceasefire accord with the President of Colombia. That is why before the ink was even dry on the treaty very quickly and cautiously a group of Colombia’s anglers embarked on an adventure to places that were completely forbidden and heavily guarded with guerilla deadly force (with their permission) – hiding in some of the most beautiful and awesome river country in the world.
But after the peace treaty has been signed, this place and many others are left unprotected from the destructive practices of illegal mining, hunting, commercial fishing and logging. The overarching goal of the group is to inspire a new perception of Colombia as one of the world’s richest and most diverse ecosystems that must be preserved for future generations.
