Confusion abounds with respect to measures that will be taken to protect what little remains of interior Fraser steelhead. Let’s not fool ourselves here. All we are talking about is the Thompson stock. It’s over for the Chilcotin. At a whopping total of 58 spawners this past spring and no advocates left to fight the good fight on their behalf, what other conclusions can any reasonable person draw? We won’t even mention those other long-forgotten stocks like Nahatlatch, Stein and Bridge/Seton. It would be a major undertaking to find anyone familiar enough with those stocks to raise a voice. That said, where are we with respect to the processes involved in addressing the conservation status of the vastly diminished Thompson stock.
