A five-fold expansion in open net fish farms that scientists believe could decimate Iceland’s wild salmon stocks is pitting Big Aquaculture against ecologists in the country.
Next month, a parliamentary bill is expected to extend farm licenses from 10 to 16 years, while omitting critics from oversight panels and handing primary monitoring powers to industry.

Yup.
“We have many of the world’s last great Atlantic salmon rivers here on this lovely island of ours, guys, how can we screw them up…?”
“Eureka! Flood the ocean with fake fish!”
High fives all round.
The only good news about this outbreak of Far Northern Lunacy that I have seen in recent days (on a Facebook page or similar that I saw, read, but didn’t clip at the time) was that a group of Icelandic anti-farm activists met with politicians in their Parliament recently, and made a very good “Against” presentation to them which was very favourably received. Something like that, any way.
All fingers, plus toes, crossed………..
