Fish taxidermist Steve Mathews first arrived in Cairns in the 1970s. At that time, the fish’s skin would be preserved and stuffed with hay, which proved difficult and varied in quality. The new technique of molding was developed out of Cairns, right next to the Great Barrier Reef, with the help of Steve, and has now been taken up worldwide. Steve has pieces hanging in the Louvre in Paris and the Smithsonian in the US.
Hi. I am enthusiast of taxidermy and want to learn fish taxidermy specifically.
