When Tom McCandless checked his Pennsylvania mailbox, he wasn’t expecting a letter explaining that a striped bass he caught eighteen years ago had been recaptured off Block Island.
The striped bass that had been recaptured was the same one he caught on Oct. 23, 2003. When McCandless caught the bass, it was 17 inches long; it had grown to 38 inches.
