Before he founded Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard was a dirtbag rebel ditching postwar conformity for the mountains. His new book, Some Stories, collects essays, eulogies, poetry and personal letters he wrote while taking part in the “golden age” of three sports, before building a business aimed at saving our home planet. “I’ve found that I get a lot of satisfaction from breaking the rules in sport and business,” Chouinard says. “Plus, it’s a lot easier than conforming and, in the end, leads to better stories.”
