New Jersey, not commonly known as a destination fishery, operates a robust hatchery stocking effort.
New Jersey Fish and Wildlife maintains two hatcheries, both in Warren County. The Charles O. Hayford State Fish Hatchery opened in Hackettstown in 1912. The Hayford was responsible for trout production through 1981 when the Pequest Trout Hatchery took over cold-water production.
