Instead of attending the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this week, Montana’s Senator Steve Daines will be honing his fly fishing skills with his wife. Can’t say we disagree with his decision…

Update: Well it turns out the fish must not be biting because Daines just announced he is heading to the Convention on Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, his counterpart over in the House, Congressman Ryan Zinke (MT’s only Congressman) spoke at the Republican Convention on Monday about “making America safe again.” However, Zinke has resigned as a delegate to the Republican nominating convention because of the party’s position on the transfer of federal public lands to the states.
In case you missed it, the GOP draft platform reads: “Congress shall immediately pass universal legislation providing a timely and orderly mechanism requiring the federal government to convey certain federally controlled public lands to the states. We call upon all national and state leaders and representatives to exert their utmost power of influence to urge the transfer of those lands identified.”
Basically, the Republican platform is to give America’s public lands back to the states, so they can sell them to private companies. Zinke understands how bad of an idea that is for Montana and all Americans. He doesn’t want the fox guarding the hen house.
