Congratulations to our good buddy Rich Simms for being named Fly Fisherman’s 2017 Conservationist of the Year! Rich is a co-founder and board member of the Wild Steelhead Coalition and has fought in the trenches of steelhead management policy for more than 15 years. Through it all, Rich has played an invaluable role gradually and substantially changing how Washington manages its state fish, an iconic species that is on the brink of collapse. Rich is truly the heart and soul of wild steelhead conservation and embodies all of the characteristics an organization liked the Wild Steelhead Coalition could ever ask for in a volunteer.
Also, big thanks to Sage for generously donating $10,000 to the Wild Steelhead Coalition in honor of Rich’s award. Their financial support and work to conserve wild steelhead is a driving force for the steelhead conservation movement.
