Wild fish advocates received a dose of good news yesterday when the Canadian Govt. put a nail in the coffin of the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline. It was a huge win for the conservation community, which has been working for years to defeat this dangerous pipeline that would endanger some of BC’s most sacred steelhead and salmon waters like the Skeena River.
Unfortunately, this dose of good news was accompanied by two pipeline approvals that are pretty hard to swallow – conditional approval of Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Pipeline and Enbridge’s Line 3 Replacement Project. Expect the fight about Trans Mountain to continue for months/years as wild salmon and steelhead advocates as well as pipeline opponents throughout BC will fight tooth and nail to stop this proposal from going forward.
