I prefer my steelhead wild.
Every year, Idaho Fish and Game raises almost 5 million steelhead in the Magic Valley Region for stocking into Salmon River drainages. After rearing for 11 months in three Magic Valley hatcheries, they are then trucked to various stocking locations within the Salmon River drainages, where their journey to the Pacific Ocean begins. Over the next two years, the steelhead mature before returning to Idaho as adults, where they are available to anglers as they swim back to their natal hatchery.
