How To Help Those In The Bahamas

The destructive winds, torrential rains and relentless flooding caused by Hurricane Dorian has likely destroyed more than 10,000 homes and wiped out much of the infrastructure, especially in the Abacos.

While there are a number of grassroots efforts out there to raise relief funds, aid experts say there are immediate emergency needs and there are several organizations already on the ground providing relief.

Charity Navigator has a list of reputable charities that are working in the Bahamas.

The Red Cross has 200 volunteers in the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama.

Global Giving has established a Bahamas Relief Fund that has raised $260,000 towards a 2 million dollar goal.

The World Central Kitchen that provides food to people after natural disasters has already started serving meals to families.

The Grand Bahama Disaster Relief Foundation has a list of drop off location for donated goods.

Finally, Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said people wishing to help can donate to the Salvation Army, which works closely with the government’s National Emergency Management Agency.
