One of the favorite arguments that opponents of breaching the four Lower Snake River dams like to trot out is that they’re needed to maintain the robust shipping economy the dams provide.
It would be a great argument except for one small fact, it’s not even remotely true.
As this presentation by Linwood Laughy clearly shows, freight volume on the Lower Snake River is down dramatically since 2000.
