Seven years ago we featured a bonefish paradise that Ray Montoya discovered on the island of Socotra off the coast of Yemen. The war pretty shut the region down after that discovery, but last month he was finally able to return.
Having documented the first fly caught bonefish, his goal was to capture the first Socotran permit on the fly. Not only was able to accomplish this, but he also recorded many other species including large swallowtail parrotfish!
The covid pandemic ended up stranding the group on the island, stay tuned for more on that story.
You can catch more of Ray’s pics and video of this amazing fishery on his Instagram and YouTube Channel.
