Captains For Clean Water recently joined forces with the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) and the Conservancy of Southwest Florida for a pivotal study. This research project aimed to measure the financial repercussions of detrimental water quality incidents in southwest Florida.
Unveiled yesterday in Fort Myers Beach, the study reveals that if a future Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) event similar to those in 2005/6 and 2018 occurs, the economic damage to southwest Florida could escalate into tens of billions of dollars.
