Colorado Parks and Wildlife said it will close a short segment of the Arkansas River near Salida while it removes a dam.
The low-head dam is located 1.5 miles upstream from the Mount Shavano State Fish Hatchery and was first built around 1956 to collect water for the hatchery downstream. CPW said the removal of the dam would benefit the river’s fish by opening about 85 miles of river upstream to fish migration.
