Janet Messineo has battled many demons, including drugs and alcohol, during her 71 years. Her greatest demon, however, came in the form of a fishing rod.
“Thank God for my fishing,” she said. “It gave me a purpose in life.”
Messineo says the pursuit of giant striped bass in the pounding surf of Martha’s Vineyard was actually her greatest salvation. Now the champion angler, taxidermist and fishing guide has chronicled her outdoor life – demons and all – in a newly-published book titled, “Casting into the Light.”
