We’ve seen a lot of ways to try and eradicate an invasive species but giving carp herpes has to be one of the most bizarre. After 8 years of lab testing, CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) is now convinced this uniquely targeted herpes virus is ready to eradicate European Carp in Australia and won’t harm any other native or introduced fish species. An unlikely coalition of famers, scientists, and environmentalists have united to push for the political and community support needed to execute this infectious plan.
