A controversial mining project in Northern Minnesota encountered a potentially fatal setback when the Army Corps of Engineers revoked a critical Clean Water Act permit.
Officials at the Corps’ St. Paul district yanked the Clean Water Act Section 404 permit for the NorthMet copper-nickel mine, which has been the focus of concern about the mine’s effects on waters in and around the popular Boundary Waters wilderness area and Lake Superior.
