While many think of the conservation movement starting early in the 20th century, the history of fisheries conservation in the United States began far earlier and served as the foundation for future efforts. A recently released 278-page coffee-table book, America’s Bountiful Waters: 150 Years of Fisheries Conservation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service provides a detailed perspective on how fish and fishing spawned the beginning of the conservation movement.
