What would the legendary fisherman and conservationist Haig-Brown have thought about the environmental battles being fought in B.C. and Canada today? He famously said that there is “no end to rabbit-brained development schemes sanctioned by government to support lame duck politicians” and that seems truer than ever today…

  1. Good to see a great man still remembered and clearly much respected, especially after he was thrown out of my old boarding school in Surrey as a teenager, by his uncle, then the school’s all powerful headmaster (there’s still a bronze statue of him sat enthroned in the school grounds), for the heinous crime of merely being a normal teenager at then all-boys school – namely, going drinking in the public houses of the little, nearby town of Godalming and doubtless trying out a line or two of his on the local gals. His family, I sense, laid the shame of this crime very heavily on young Roderick, hence his swift disappearance from Britain to start a new life in Canada. Our loss, your gain.
