Since 2000, the Atlantic Salmon Federation’s Maine Headwaters Project has proven that reconnecting headwater streams and rivers to the ocean offers the best chance for restoring Maine’s 12 species of sea-run fish to abundance.
We are excited to share our story with you in this video which offers rare footage of wild Atlantic salmon documented last summer. You will see about a dozen of the over 1,800 adults that returned to the rivers of Maine in 2020. A small fraction of the historic runs but an uptick from just a decade ago and a result of Atlantic Salmon Federation’s Maine Headwaters Project successes.
