Five years ago this week the Prince passed away due to a drug overdose. At the 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne, and others performed While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Prince’s guitar solo that starts at 3:30 is exceptional.
I’ve never been one for music memoirs and documentaries, but I recently found an American lady music critic’s hour of recollections about a memorable meeting with Prince fascinating. It was on BBC national radio the other Saturday and should be available intertnationally through its Sounds app.

PS – Speaking of the very fine While My Guitar Gently Weeps, take a look at Eric Clapton playing the same at another multi-star live tribute gig (with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr playing) to George Harrison. Simply incredible, I ‘ve got my copy of the performance on-screen and playing loud now. Available on YouTube.
