First there is the water-cyan, teal, aquamarine-colors so blue you wonder if you ever really knew what blue was before now. Then triggerfish with teeth so fantastic you’d laugh if their refusals weren’t so infuriating. Giant Trevally whose predatory zeal unnerves the saltiest of old salts. Bonefish so fast you wonder if the learned the art of teleportation. Later, there are stories of them all, late nights under tropical stars, the seemingly sudden call of island roosters in the morning. Fish. Rinse. Repeat.
This is salt season.
