Maybe part of the reason salmon runs throughout the state of Alaska are in decline is due to the copious amounts of hatchery fish they dump into the ecosystem? Even the the Kenai Sport Fishing Association came out in favor of reducing hatchery releases.
A pink salmon hatchery in Alaska’s Prince William Sound will be permitted to continue on with its plan to increase the number of fish it releases, starting in 2020, by 20 million.
The Alaska Board of Fisheries (BOF) voted 6 to 1 on Tuesday, in a packing meeting room in Anchorage, to dismiss a petition by the Kenai River Sportfishing Association (KRSA) that would stop the Solomon Gulch hatchery, in Valdez, from growing eggs for and producing 270m pink salmon, 20m more than it did in 2017.
